Early voting: Oct. 26 – Nov. 1
You can vote at any of the District's 25 early vote centers, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day from Monday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 1. Not registered, or moved? Early vote centers offer same-day registration. The map's wait times are the ones the Board of Elections reports for each center.
Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3
On Election Day you can vote at any of the District's 75 vote centers, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with same-day registration. If you're in line at 8 p.m., you can still vote. Enter your address in the guide above to find the ones nearest you.
Voting by mail
Every registered voter in the District is mailed a ballot. If you'll be away and want it sent somewhere else, your request must reach the Board of Elections by Monday, Oct. 19. If your ballot hasn't arrived a week before Election Day, plan to vote in person.
Return it by mail, postmarked by Election Day; it must arrive by Nov. 13. Or drop it in any of the 55 mail ballot drop boxes, open around the clock until 8 p.m. on Election Day; at any vote center while it's open, without waiting in line; or at the Board of Elections' office by 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
If there's a problem with your returned ballot, the Board will contact you; you have until Thursday, Nov. 19, to fix it. Decided to vote in person instead? Bring your unopened mail ballot to a vote center and hand it in, or drop it unopened in a drop box. More from the Board of Elections.
What to bring
Most D.C. voters don't need ID. If you're voting for the first time after registering by mail or online, you may need to show a current photo ID, or a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document with your name and address.
Getting there
For every vote center, the guide lists the nearest Metrorail or Metrobus stop and the routes that serve it, and the directions links open your maps app with transit directions.
Accessibility
The Board of Elections lists seven Election Day vote centers as not accessible: Columbia Heights Education Campus, Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church, Nalle Elementary School, Powell Elementary School, Shepherd Recreation Center, Stuart-Hobson Middle School and Watkins Elementary School. You can vote at any other vote center instead. You can bring someone to help you vote, and the Board's voter assistance clerks are at every vote center.
